Have you ever felt your need to share something so diabolically ingenious it makes you sick? Well, today is that day at Inksie. What is it, you ask, that we love so dearly?
The answer is…tape. Yes my friend, tape.
Tape is a thin, flat strip of material that often has an applied adhesive. Tape commonly comes in rolls: the tape is rolled on itself to form a cylinder.
There are many types of tape: duct tape, scotch tape and masking tape; gaff tape and double-sided tape. Tapeworm. Packaging, cloth, athletic; surgical and electrical; cassette tape, magnetic tape and video tape; sex tape; painter’s tape, heat tape, ticker tape. Caution and police; measuring tape. Mix tape.
Tape is used to fix or quickly repair. It fixates objects in relationship to one another. It also temporarily masks (ex. painter’s tape). Tape is typically cheap and associated with ‘temporary.’ It’s mass-produced, commonplace.
As you would expect of something so universal, the internet abounds with its stories: tape tales of thrills and trepidation.
Duct Tape
During a private “fly-in” fishing excursion in the Alaskan wilderness, the chartered pilot and fishermen left a cooler-box of fish and bait inside the plane. A bear smelled it and this is what he did to the plane (see image). The pilot used his radio, and had another pilot bring him 2 new tires, 3 cases of duct tape, and a supply of plastic sheets. Plane truth – they patched the plane together, and flew it home!

Gaff Tape
My pet Armadillo once broke one of his 3-inch claws trying to open a can of tuna. I reset it with a high alaphetic resin glue, gaffed it for about 5 days, and it was as good as new.

Athletic Tape
